enlightenment of a cement-head

We all have close calls. Whether your doing 75mph and missing the stepladder that flew off of someones truck, knowing when to shut your mouth before she storms out or not smashing your fingers with a hammer. Sometimes its a little closer though, today’s was seeing a propagating crack shoot out in front of my board, thats when your dinosaur brain takes over and you just “do” without thought.

If there is no other redeeming consequence of these types of situations, there is the slight change in perspective they offer. Usually I’m reminded to hug my mom, but not this time. Today was more about that dinosaur drive that takes over, the one that knows how to achieve awesomeness.

For most of us these moments are few and far between because we’re just trying to stay afloat. We have shit jobs, live in basements and can’t seem to get it right in regards to the wimmin-types. While we chase a paycheck we’re bombarded by retards that hold office, twits on the internet and the typical morons that all of us encounter on a daily basis. What a perpetual pain in the ass.

I’ll never write a poem like Newbold, have his rad attitude nor ride a scooter like a madman. I’ll never have hospitality like Hobbs or shred gnar like Jeremiah. And I will never have a seemingly endless supply of talent like Jeff. But once in awhile I will just “do”, and it’s liberating.

This is not an ass-kissing session. This is a thanks to all kinds of rad people in our lives that have simply been themselves. And its a kick in the ass. Fuck, today was a close one and a reminder to do good work and be awesome.

Glad to know you're safe. Too many close calls lately happening because of our glorious snow pack.

Sometimes it's those close calls that let us really appreciate what we have... Especially when you live to tell the tale.

Well put, and very relatable. These moments make you view it all from above, and are a middle finger to the false importance of many of our daily concerns and actions. Hug your mom! and fuck how many likes that gets you.
